A M Weiss’s postcard brand AMW Paris is known as early as 1911 and was still operating in 1925. At the start, Weiss was dependent on the Agélou brothers for a steady supply of photographic series to publish.

Later, Weiss published a large number of dramatised scenes, usually involving a woman and a man, designed to provide a pretext for the female model to undress, while the man is there for the viewer to identify with. A visit to the woman’s house by a salesman, music teacher or doctor always ends in unexpected passion. Then there are the technological wonders of the age – an airship or an ocean liner – which are shoe-horned into service as the backdrops for some unlikely nudity. Add a multitude of brothel scenarios with a maid or madam, red-light areas, slave markets, peeping-tom views of ladies at their toilette and simple bucolic scenes and AMW Paris provides pretty comprehensive coverage of every common top-shelf set-up used either before or since.
